Making a Fresh Start in 2022

It has been a long road the last 2 years experiencing the pandemic that has overthrown almost every aspect of our lives. As we step into 2022 and adapt to the numerous changes, it is time to look at making a fresh start. The beginning of a new year is often a time for new beginnings.


There are a number of things within our control that can help with having a positive outlook.


Change your environment

Changing up our environment represents our mental state, and when it is cluttered it can cause us anxious feelings that can get in the way of our productivity. For example, if you are used to spending time at home searching social media or watching Netflix, switch it up! Maybe start taking yourself to a new coffee shop and journal while you are sipping your coffee or latte. Or, start a book you have been wanting to read. If you are thinking of trying something new like hiking or nature walks, maybe sit at the coffee shop and research trails near you. When you change the scenery around you and not have the same routine by going to the same places all the time, your mind will change with it also.



Journaling is a great way to weed out your bad habits and negative thoughts. At times our thoughts can get out of control and drive us crazy. By writing out your thoughts on paper you are allowing them to release and letting them go. Journaling only takes a couple of minutes each day to start seeing results.


Reorganize in the new year

How about reorganizing your surroundings? If you do not already have a cleaning habit in place don’t get upset about it. Start off each day by making your bed and doing the dishes even if it is putting them in the dishwasher. Reorganize your desk area while listening to your favorite music or podcast. Keeping yourself entertained while cleaning is easier but more enjoyable to execute and get into the habit.


Tend to plant life

Maybe start a garden or have one or two houseplants to care for and watch grow into a beautiful plant in a sunny window in your home. This gives you a new perspective on the beauty of life. Gardening gives you the excuse to go outside and breathe some fresh air. You can create an outside space around the garden that will give you a place of serenity and relaxation. 


Set goals for growth

Set some growth goals by challenging yourself. Maybe just setting monthly goals to start off like exercising and eating healthier is one way to get into the habit. Another way of making yourself into that better variety of yourself is to complement the next person you see. You do not have to know them, just pass them a compliment followed by a smile. You never know how good that makes someone feel, and makes you feel good as well.


When you are feeling down, you can pick yourself back up. The ways of doing this are endless and building positiveness into our lives grows you into a better version of yourself!
